ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Arya Z. Khan

14 years old, Arya Z. Khan was born and lives in Atlanta, Georgia; though her family is from Bangladesh. She is an avid reader that enjoys reading classical literature, fantasy, poetry, science, and philosophy. Along with her passion for writing, also comes music — specifically violin and guitar. She is involved in the “Write the World” online forum, where some of her poetry is written. She recently won a competition to publish one of her poems in Paw and Pen, a high school publication. This book, Behind the Shadowed Curtain, is her first ever book to be published. It contains about 28 poems and two fantasy stories. She aspires to be a writer, astrophysicist, and activist, hoping for equality, knowledge, open-mindedness, and the harmony of nature, people, and the universe!

The goal of much of my writing is to make readers ask more questions and discover something beyond what people say, to show the beauty of uncertainty. Many of the poems are also about magic, sentiment, and nature. This reflects the title, Behind the Shadowed Curtain. Behind what society covers and beyond the mundane. As L.M. Montgomery said, “The world calls them its singers, poets, artists, and storytellers; but they are just people who’ve never forgotten the way to fairyland.”
